Comfort Zone: Why Staying Safe Is Destroying Your Dreams

A stylized digital illustration in warm sepia tones showing a lone figure sitting on a boulder, gazing toward a distant sunlit mountain beyond their comfort zone.

Comfort Zone, we all have it and we all for some reason don’t want to leave it. I mean what is so special about sitting behind a computer or glued to your phone and not starting a chat with someone? Imagine all the cool stuff you can learn from other people.

Our comfort zones hold us back and not let us reach our maximum potential.

In this blog post I will go over:

  • How to spot your comfort zone
  • How to understand your weakness
  • How to get out of the comfort zone

Yeah, this post will be short but hopefully insightful for you. I hope you get as much as possible from this post.

How to Spot Your Comfort Zone

Not spotting your comfort zone is like ignoring your biggest enemy. I hear people always whining that: “why don’t I have more friends” or “why am I still broke”. But they don’t understand that they are slowly suffocating themselves.

One of the most important parts that I always bring out is Be Honest, not with others but to yourself.

First I want to point out that your and my comfort zone is made out of emotions and bad habits mostly. I know what mine are but do you?

To find your comfort zone, you need to analyze yourself. Take time to understand what holds you back. Maybe take a Sunday off and be only by yourself and your thoughts (Blog post about that: HERE)

A Quick Example

Lets bring an example: you want to save money or make more money. But how to we do that? By working or doing hustling. But you never look for a job, or maybe you did but you never sent them your application. Maybe you are thinking of doing day trading (check this post about: day trading) but never actually put any time into the charts.

If you see that you are not getting anywhere then probably you are stuck in your comfort zone.

And to actually spot your comfort zone and understand what is holding you back, you have to question yourself:

  • Why do I never send the application?
  • What did I spend time on, instead of working for my dreams or wishes?
  • What points are the hardest to do?
  • What distracts me and get me stuck again?
  • What are the patterns of my mindset?

These are just some of the questions but ill leave the rest to you do find out. So what are you waiting, go think about it and take a pen and paper with you to writ out all your thoughts.

How to Understand Your Comfort Zone

Understanding your comfort zone and your weaknesses are on of the most important parts to this. When you got the answers to your questions lay them out and find the thought patters that you go thru.

  • I want to make more money
  • I search about local work
  • I find the work
  • I read about it
  • I feel insecure or doubt
  • I don’t apply for it

I mean really how are you ever going to find out if you don’t try, it never hurt anyone.

Of course I don’t know what problems you are facing personally but I understand mine and I worked on them until I got over them.

Lets say that you want to have more money but you have a bad habit of spending it on stuff you don’t actually need. And when you do acknowledge it you say: “But I need it”. That right there is your comfort zone speaking.

Step out of it with hard and rough truth.

  • NO I don’t need this phone case.
  • NO I don’t need that pizza.
  • NO I don’t need that game or skin.

Understand your dreams, if you want to save money then start by accepting the truth. Then next you can work on your habits. Maybe Make it harder to buy impulsively. You can do that by:

  • Hiding you credit card
  • Tell you friend to snap you back into reality
  • send your money to another account you don’t have a card for
  • Set a daily limit

The list really goes on, so start doing the stuff you need and get out of that comfort zone.

How to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

I already spilled a little on how to get out of it in the previous title, but Ill do it anyway.

By stepping out of your comfort zone I don’t mean to jump out of it. When I said that your comfort zone contains of bad habits and a lot of emotions then it will not be easy to change yourself.

You have to be self-aware and constantly ask is this the right thing to do? Why do I feel like that? Why do I need this?

You don’t have to go and talk to a microphone if you want new friends or you don’t have to go and start a business.

You just need to take it step by step. Next time you feel like holding back your opinion — say it. Do the opposite of what your fear tells you.

Next time you are about to buy a product, Instead, invest it into something or put it in your savings account. It will become much easier if you take this more then a challenge then a work, go and find out what new stuff you can do and experience the emotions they will bring.

Maybe next time when there is an event and the person who is talking on the stage asks for any questions, stand up and ask something, Yeah it might be dumb or weird, but at least you stood up not like others.

Final word

  • Be self-aware and understand your dreams and what you need to change about yourself.
  • Find your weaknesses and your comfort zones.
  • Analyze yourself in the moment why you did what you did and what you felt.
  • Understand what holds you back.
  • Start doing the exact opposite.

I hope this was helpful and I probably just repeated the same thing someone else has said to you, maybe. But I think we all need to hear this, even I.

While writing this there were several things to came into my mind that I want to change about myself.

“You’re not soft. You’re not stuck. You’re just in your comfort zone — and it’s time to leave. Write it out. Act on it. Change one small thing today. Then come back stronger tomorrow.”

See you the next time, good luck.
